Something has happened,  gradually, over the last few days. I think it might be the onset of normality. And yes, I appreciate that may seem a strange idea for anyone who knows me well, but still…

Since I started drinking coffee again things have started to feel more balanced. Maybe even before that, though I wonder if that’s my attempt to justify including coffee in my diet! Would I have the same feeling if I’d reintroduced dairy, or chocolate, or cake?

I can’t help wondering if I’m kidding myself that coffee’s okay.

I’m pretty sure it is, at the level I’m drinking it at, 2 -3 cups a day, although today it’s probably going to be four cups. Slippery slope? But then I’m also very tired right now. I’m telling myself that’s because we went to bed at 2am and were awake again at 7, and I’ve been on the go ever since (13 hours so far).

I have a right to be tired!

But still there’s that niggling doubt…

Am I cheating?

But I don’t think I am. And what helps is how normal it feels to be eating as I am. No grains, dairy or sugar really isn’t bothering me. No potatoes or legumes never did bother me! No other random chemicals and junk is great.


Except for when it comes to things like wanting some mango chutney or lime pickle with my curry. The rice I can do without surprisingly happily, but I miss the other bits.

It’s not the big things, like half a plate of rice, that are troublesome, but the bit of random veg oil in the pickle or the sugar in the chutney. I do believe that my body would handle those quite happily, especially when everything else is ‘clean’. But a detox is a detox, and that’s another slippery slope.

So no sneaking cheaty condiments under the table!

And I suppose that, perhaps, after the full 30 days it might seem normal not to have even those. Potentially a bit boring though, but then, normality often is!


What have I eaten today?

Smoothie – berries, coconut milk, ghee, spinach, dates, raisins, sunflower and pumpkin seeds

An apple, probably

Black coffee

And that’s it!
